Ametrine is in the quartz family and is part amethyst and part citrine. It is primarily found in Brazil and Bolivia where amethyst and citrine deposits overlap. Ametrine is formed over millions of years, when water and elements interact with magma creating crystals. Ametrine is a prized gem used in jewelry and some of the most well-known specimens are found at the Smithsonian Institution.
